Recalling Nigeria, 2006, 1.2n x 0.8m

sold

This is a work I carried out of my mother. It is from a photo I took when talking to her about an upsetting experience in her life. When living in Nigeria during the civil war in 1969, she was held captive for several days at gun point. This was naturally traumatic and she was on the verge of tears.

I was experimenting with texture on this canvas. I painted the entire work with thick paint and when on the verge of drying I ruffled the texture. When my parents took it home they had trouble fitting it in the car to drive from my flat!
