During my PhD, Paul and I used to wander through the West End of Glasgow at the weekends. One day we were rooting through a second hand bookshop and I picked up a book, Touched with Fire by Kay Redfield Jamison.
I took it home and started reading it. The book was one of those when I couldn't put it down and read it front to back.Kay had written about the relationship between mental illness and people who achieve huge things in whatever skill they have.The idea blew me away and I wondered if I could use any of the techniques I was learning in the lab to study this fascinating subject?
Incidentally, I found out that Jamison was visiting the Department of Physicians at Glasgow University in 2019 and I had to go and listen to her!
