This work shows the hands of the O'Donovan's mother. These are important in the artist's life and she remembers them strongly from her childhood. Due to her knowledge of anatomy she is fascinated by the fat, blood vessels, tendons and muscles beneath the skin. She was also intrigued in the abstract nature of allowing the paint to drip down the canvas.
