This was done during my PhD - I would come home from a day working in the lab and then sit down at my easel. This was one of my first oil paintings so I was experimenting to see whether I could mix the right colours of flesh and show its texture and shape. I found the contrast between the flesh of my hand with the bracelets and ring I was an interesting challenge.
