Varifocal glasses

Anybody reading this who has had a brain injury will understand this. Before my head injury, I wouldn't quite get it.
A few years ago my eyesight was struggling, so I went to Specsavers and bought myself a cheap pair of reading glasses. They helped a lot, especially when I read in bed at night. I got used to the routine of keeping them on the top of my head and pulling them down whenever I needed to see close. It became normal. Sometime I would grab above my head for them and find that I'd left them somewhere!
Recently I've found books to read in bed where the font has been too small for my eyes to cope with – in particular the Steven Pinker one that I was really looking forward to opening!
So, another trip to Specsavers and I forked out for a pair of top-notch varifocals. Ones that I put on first thing in the morning and keep on all day. But I tell you it’s meant I’ve had to change the routines that are etched into my head. I still occasionally pull them up onto my head and then realise I don’t need to. And especially at night when I’m getting undressed and doing my teeth…but it’s been a week now and I’m gradually getting there. Once I’m used to it I know it’ll be an improvement – I just have to put up with the annoyance until then!
On a similar note, my husband doesn’t really like the repetitiveness of life, the way I do. As an example that I find vaguely irritating is he occasionally buys crinkle cut chips instead of our usual straight cut jobs. Yes, that’s OK, but I really rather he didn’t!
