Commission

My Mum has asked me do to a commission for her of their lad Angus. I'm happy to do it.

Thing is I don't enjoy drawing canvases out. It takes me forever, plus I measure it out with a ruler, that I can't help thinking is cheating. But once I get the paint out it's a totally different story!

My boy decided that he'd like to copy the photo too, which was great to hear. A few days ago he sat at my easel with a pencil. Within half an hour he produced this and excitedly said he was going to do it anime style. Brilliant!

On our way to school this morning, he said there was something worrying him. That colouring it with his paint pens were a problem. Because if he gets it wrong then the pens dry quickly so he won't be able to change it.

I said to him that maybe instead he could use paint? Because that dries much more slowly, so you can change your mind and change it if you like. He agreed to this.

It made me think of discovering oil paint. Depending on the colour you use, it'll still be wet for the next few days, so you can come back to it and tweak things around. I love that about oil paint!
