New friend?

I recently made a potential connection with someone on Health Unlocked who lives in Glasgow – and we agreed to meet for a coffee.

Now I work my life around routine much more since my TBI than I used to. Plus, I find new things make me anxious and worried. As our coffee date approached, I got more and more nervous. When it got to the day of the meeting, I was really uncomfy with nerves – it almost reminded me of the way I used to feel just before exams at uni!

Then we met. As soon as I clapped eyes on her, every single bit of anxiety disappeared.

We talked and talked and went off on tangents, going here and there about, well, everything! Our lives, our head injuries and plenty more besides. It is such a huge relief to talk to someone who gets it. They know about parts of what happened to me, in ways that no one else will, at least those who haven’t had a brain injury.

When I left to go home, I almost felt high. We’re going to meet again for sure and I can’t express how happy I am about that. I make actual friends so rarely in my life – I was like that before my TBI too. So, when it actually happens, it feels like such a rarity that it gives me a feeling I hardly ever feel. Happiness.
