Sister visit

My Mum and Dad have not seen my sister and their granddaughters for over a decade, since maybe 2012. My sister blocked them from all social media. She would not answer her phone when they rang. She sent no birthday or Christmas cards. They were erased from her life.
That all changed last week.
My sister and both of her daughters visited my parents.
I couldn’t believe it.
I was thrilled for my Mum.
I told my Mum I was basically “on call” should she wish to call me for whatever support I could offer while they were there.
Apparently for the first day it was lovely. My Mum did what my Mum always does. She bought her granddaughters presents – whatever clothes they liked…
On the first morning, my Mum went into my sister’s bedroom to “tell her how much I love her.” My sister sat her down and laid into her. Gave her a tirade of hatred. Ripped her apart. Told her about her failures as a mother. Then left the room and carried on as if nothing had happened.
My Mum pulled herself together, took a deep breath and also left the room. She carried on as if nothing had happened.
But of course, it had.
I’m still trying to deal with my feelings about this. What my mother is willing to face in order to see her daughter and her granddaughters.
