Summer holiday routine change

Speaking of change in routine, here’s one I’m in the middle of getting used to. My boy this week broke up for his summer holidays and is of course really happy about it!

I’m doing the smiling thing too in public, but inside I’m struggling a wee bit to alter my (rigid) routine.

On the plus side, I no longer have to wake up with my alarm clock for a good few weeks, which is brilliant. That means I can stay up late reading if I want to.

After that, I find it a bit harder. No usual morning tasks like emptying the dishwasher and getting breakfast ready, no making my lunch and eating it watching telly, and let’s face it, there’s a little guy happily running around the house. And said guy is often yelling “I’m so BORED!!”

It makes me wonder, why do brain injury survivors rely so much on planning and routine I wonder. According to the professionals, the way I live my life is relatively normal in response to what happened. But why? Is it to do with feelings of safety? That if I do the same thing over and over again it makes me feel more comfortable…whatever it is it’s being abandoned and being stomped all over by an energised, mischievous little guy! But maybe I wouldn’t want it any other way…
